Well the Fed minutes have come and gone and the worry and hesitance ahead of the release was unwarranted.
This morning U.S. equity futures are confirming the Fed non-event as all three index are pushing higher in the green.
The next hurdle for the market is the non-Farm Payroll report scheduled for tomorrow at 8:00 am EDT.
Morning Coffee headlines scans lit up on the Macy’s (M, quote) announcement that the company will be closing 5 stores eliminating 2,500 jobs. Macy also released that holiday season produced 3.6% increase in same store sales.
Overnight China released its consumer inflation report indicating that inflation is at 7 month low at 2.5%
Commodities
Commodities remain strong this morning with the exception of natural gas were it appears traders are taking some profits after the run in nat gas and U.S. warms up.
WTI Crude oil is higher by is up 0.5% at $92.77 and natural gas is lowr by 1.66% at $4.146
Equity only readers can gain exposure to WTI Crude Oil through the United States Oil Fund (USO, quote) ETF that seeks to reflect the performance, less expenses, of the spot price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) light, sweet crude oil. The USO will invest in futures contracts for WTI light, sweet crude oil, other types of crude oil, heating oil, gasoline, natural gas and other petroleum based-fuels that are traded on exchanges. It may also invest in other oil interests such as cash-settled options on oil futures contracts, forward contracts for oil, and OTC transactions that are based on the price of oil.
Gold and silver are trading basically flat at $1,226 and $19.54 per ounce .
Equity only readers gain exposure to the gold through the SPDR Gold Shares Trust (GLD, quote) ETF that seeks to replicate the performance, net of expenses, of the price of gold bullion. The GLD trust holds gold, and is expected to issue baskets in exchange for deposits of gold, and to distribute gold in connection with redemption of baskets. Readers can also access the gold market through the iShares COMEX Gold Trust (IAU, quote) ETF seeks to replicate, net of expenses, the day-to-day movement of the price of gold bullion.
Earnings
Alcoa (AA, quote) is scheduled to report Q4 earnings after the close today. Analysts expectations are for EPS of $0.05 on revenues of $5.43 billion.
