It’s been a roller coaster ride for gold over the last couple of months with the precious metal first rallying almost $200 per ounce, and then promptly reversing from the $1390 per ounce level, and giving back just over half the gain, to trade at the time of writing at $1293.20 per ounce.

Bullish tone for gold set to continue

Gold’s recent bullish momentum appears to be holding firm for the time being, and indeed February has been a positive month with only minor pullbacks and reversals denting the move higher.

The sun starts to shine again for gold bugs

As I have written many times before it has been a torrid time for gold bugs, who have seen the precious metal collapse from the dizzy heights of almost $2000 per ounce to plumb the lows of $1200 per ounce.

Are we seeing a paradigm shift in gold?

For gold bugs, 2013 was certainly a year to forget with the precious metal continuing its remorseless journey lower, a journey punctuated with minor rallies which promised much, but delivered little. To say it was a gloomy end to the year would an understatement.

Alarm bells ringing for gold bugs!

With commodities in general taking a hammering in the markets at the moment, neither silver or gold have escaped. In the last two days, the dramatic falls in silver, have also been reflected in gold futures, with the June contract trading lower once again overnight on Globex as we test the $1540 per ounce level.

Gold continued to trade in a narrow range once again yesterday, with the April gold futures contract closing marginally lower and ending the gold trading session with a narrow spread down candle, closing just below the psychological $1600 per ounce level at $1594.80 per ounce.

Gold price continued its climb higher for a second day after Federal Reserve announcement of third round of quantitative easing which weakens the U.S. dollar and in turn strengthen gold’s price as traders look for safety.  The FMOC’s announcement of QE3 was more aggressive than most analysts were anticipating with a plan to purchase 40 billion USD in mortgage backed securities on a ongoing unlimited fashion until the U.S. economy
